Hands Across Atlanta

***VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT***

As you all know, our volunteers are so special to us and they are the main reason we are able to do the work in the community that we do. Without them and all the hard work they put into Hands Across Atlanta, none of this would be possible! We think it is necessary to acknowledge those that give so much of their time, effort, hard work and resources. We think of you all as HEROS and want YOU to know how SPECIAL you are!

Our first HERO is Brenda Battle! Brenda's journey with Hands Across Atlanta began in September of 2017 when she heard about our last Feed The Homeless Event that took place in Renaissance Park. Feeling compelled to do something good for those in need, but not knowing what to expect or where to start, Brenda rallied together food and water donations, and her friends and made a bunch of turkey sandwiches to hand out at the event. The event was a huge success! Brenda met a lot of wonderful people, learned a lot and knew that this was the place she wanted to be to serve her community! She has been volunteering with HAA every single month since!

At every Feed The Homeless Event Brenda brings with her an array of homemade food. She truly enjoys being able to cook for those who need it most. She prepares every dish with love, like she's feeding her own family! Brenda loves to make others feel good and loves seeing the recipients enjoy what she makes. When asked what makes her so passionate about volunteering she said, “ The feeling and love I get from the thankful people we serve. The feeling I get when the event is over or about over and a recipient comes back and says thanks for coming to feed us today! I love fellow-shipping with other people and doing something pleasing for God.”

Brenda is a retired administrative assistant with Easter Seals and disabled since 2009. She is on a fixed income, but does a bit of side work and buys the food she makes to donate herself along with some donations from friends. She says “ When I see a bargain on something needed to help with my ministry, as we call it, I jump on it! For my birthday this year I asked for an insulated food carrier bag to transport hot food to the venue each month. My son and daughter in law bought me 2! I was happy like they had given me a diamond! For me, the bags are diamond! That is how much I love doing this!” Brenda has one child, a son (and daughter in law) who have been in the military for 21 years and is currently working on completing his last 5 years to retirement. He is in charge of the Navy Recruiting Station in Toledo Ohio near Maumee, Ohio. Brenda also has one granddaughter, Lily Joy Nevaeh Kilgore, who just recently turned 6 and is the love of her life!

We thank you Brenda for your dedication and service! You truly are a HERO to all of Hands Across Atlanta and all those you serve!
